It was such a gorgeous day today. The weather was sunny and cool, and it was perfect for hiking with the dogs. I’ve been waiting for good, cool weather to set in so I can get serious about taking Sam and Luke on hikes. Australian Labradoodles can really tear up a trail, but they don’t like the heat! So on wonderful crisp and breezy days, it’s a treat to get out there and enjoy the hills.

I’ve done a lot of hiking in Johnson’s Pasture with Sam when the weather is cool, but this was Luke’s first foray into the hills. I wasn’t sure how it would go. While Sam is dedicated to walking and getting out into the world on a regular basis (we have to spell w-a-l-k around Sam), Luke isn’t that interested. A walk is something he can take or leave. Mostly, Luke is just interested in stopping to smell every little thing.

Not today, though! Luke was all over it with our hike. We had a great time tromping all over the hills in Johnson’s Pasture. He got to explore and play fetch and tangle with his brother…and when it was over he was done and ready for a good nap. I always know I’ve done our outings right when the dogs are all flattened out afterward. It’s fun to go do things with the dogs, and it’s really rewarding when they are too tired to move after we get home. I feel like I’ve done a good job then!

So, a few pictures of our hike today. It was lovely and really just so much fun! Luke is now King of the Hill. Well, not really. Sam is still King.
