Weekend Update: Dog Beach & River’s End Revisited

[singlepic id=862 w=320 h=240 float=left]Going to the beach with Australian Labradoodles is one of the most fun things a person can do. I can’t get enough of it. From what I can tell, the dogs don’t mind it, either. So, I imagine you are ahead of me on this one and have already guessed where we were this weekend. I took a new friend and her beautiful pup for their first trip to Huntington Dog Beach.

[singlepic id=556 w=200 h=120 float=right]Last November, I got to meet Susan and her pup Chloe (that’s Susan with Sam) at the Doodle Lunch in Pasadena that Curtiss (Beaumonde Labradoodles) hosted for us. It was interesting to see the great dogs from different litters. Elton, Chloe and Luke are littermates and they were all there at the lunch. I remembered Chloe being a really pretty pup in November, but seeing her again this weekend, I realized just how much she looks like her older sister Penny (in Sam’s litter). It’s so striking how much they look alike.

It’s been months since Luke has seen Chloe, but it did seem like he remembered her. He seemed excited to see her in the way that he’s excited to see Elton (his other littermate that we get to see a lot). Maybe I’m making things up. I know that Sam and Penny are bonded in a way that seems different from how they are connected to other dogs. I see it with Luke and Elton, too. Seemed like that’s what I saw with how happy Luke was to be with Chloe.

[singlepic id=872 w=400 h=320 float=left]One thing I know I’m not making up, is how much fun the dogs seem to have at the beach. Chasing balls, birds and each other–all the while, getting sandy and wet. What could be better for a doodle?

I really enjoyed the morning (as I do any morning I get to go to the beach with 2 or more dogs!). Susan and I walked up and down the beach and then popped over to Rivers End for breakfast and mimosas (sound familiar, Dan?). I took a lot of pictures, and haven’t edited all of them. Here are some of the pictures of our morning.

Spread the joy!

  1. WOW! two weeks in a row and what no bloody mary? Oh wait you only like to take one drink of them..LOL.. was it as crowded as last week? i like my food, but you didnt like your breakfast burrito and was the service better? I do enjoy the outdoor patio and all the people are so nice there.

    • LOL No Bloody Mary for me this time because you weren’t there for me to mooch a few sips from your drink! Mimosas all the way, baby! I didn’t love the food last time, but I found something good this time (breakfast quesadilla, yum!). Doods got cottage cheese and eggs. They were happy, for sure! It was chilly, so it was not crowded. But the restaurant has blankets to bundle up in (very thoughtful!) and we sat on the very edge of the deck that overlooks the beach. It was great. Loved it! Service was fine and you are right…I think the people there are really nice. It was such a good morning. I could have stayed for hours. 🙂

    • I found the article…but I have to say that I really disagree with the author. If she is so offended at the beach, she should either pick up a bag and participate in the solution, or stay away. I do agree that we dog owners have a responsibility to pick up after our dogs, make sure they are well-trained and well-socialized. I’ve never had a problem with any dogs at the beach, but that doesn’t mean that there are not problems sometimes. Sometimes there are dumb owners and/or problematic dogs. Deal with it. Give the owner the feedback they should have and handle your situation like a grown up! Ugh, people! Stop being such babies! Also, dog owners, grow up! Train your dogs, socialize your dogs, educate yourself and pick up after your dogs. It’s not rocket science, people. Geez.
